Madeira Airport, serving the five-century-old capital of Funchal, lies 16 km / 10 miles from the city of Santa Cruz. The single, four-storey terminal serves over two million passengers per year.
Passengers can connect with Madeira, an autonomous region of Portugal, via domestic flights between Lisbon and Porto, and regularly scheduled flights between major cities in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands. The airport also manages flights to and from the Canary Islands.
The airport offers plentiful ATMs as well as a bank, currency exchange facility and a post office. A travel agency and a tour operator also operate from within the airport. Shopping options include a duty-free shop and stores specialising in regional handicrafts, Madeira wine, tobacco, newspapers and periodicals, perfumes and flowers. Dining options are well-varied, with two restaurants, three cafés and two bars.
Two VIP rooms are available for use, one on the ground floor and another on the first floor. Madeira Airport also hosts two locations for Internet access as well as a wireless connection.
Madeira Airport is equipped to accommodate disabled passengers. Airport information is located on the first floor and two tourist information centres are located on the ground floor.
